Today I didn't get much done, since we had a little Cinco de Mayo barbecue thing. But I did manage to get out and buy some toys (Jen's birthday present to me):

I used the Dremel to clean up the insides of the spacers I fabricated yesterday. Way easy.

Tonight, after the BBQ (and a nap), I went out and continued working on the tiedown brackets. Not rocket science, but somehow I managed to screw up one hole location. No salvaging the bracket safely (I'd have to greatly elongate a hole) so I'm ordering new bracket stock from Van's. This will actually be the very first part I've had to replace. Simple mistake, oh well.

Anyway, I drilled the other tiedown bracket to the spar and tapped the 3/8 x 16 x 1" eye bolt threads. Here you can see the tiedown bracket and the spacers.

I was having a tough time explaining yesterday how this works. Basically the bracket bolts to the spar, and the spacers simply go between the bracket and the spar web. Nutplates mount to the bracket, and the aileron bellcrank bolts to this assembly on the other side of the spar. You'll see within the next few days...

If you're looking at this and noticing that the tiedown bracket hangs over the left edge of the spar doubler, you're right. And that's exactly what the plans call for. Weird.
