This morning I worked the fairing and got it released from the leg. It came out great. It'll need some minor filling on the outside to smooth it out perfectly, but structurally it's exactly how I intended it to be. It looks all bumpy and wavy here, but I had just been sanding it (which is why it's white in all those spots).

The trailing edge matches up infinitely better and tighter than the original. This will definitely hold the leg fairing alignment, no doubt. This enhancement plus the foam -- which has now cured pretty much solid -- is just what the doctor ordered.

Here you can see my glass and flox filling job on the inside. It hugs the leg fairing really tightly now. Custom fit...can't beat that.

Here you can see roughly how much more length I added to the fairing. About an inch on the leading edge and about 5/8" on the trailing edge. The purpose for extending the cuff is twofold...primarily, to get that tight fit. The secondary, but equally important benefit to extending the leading edge is that now I can slice off even more of the top of the leg fairing. This will help the bottom cowl come off way easier. In the background you can see the right gear leg...and at the top of the leg fairing you can see the notch I cut a while back to help the bottom cowl clear as it comes off. That notch will get cut even more sharply downward.

We're down to one car now, since the Accord died the other day. Apparently in 2000 there was a service bulletin -- which I never got, presumably because Honda doesn't have my address on file. This all-important service bulletin mentions the possibility of a crankcase seal working loose -- right near the oil pump at that -- and all of the oil can be pumped out of the case in a matter of seconds, of course resulting in "serious damage" to the engine. Well, exactly that happened to Jen while she was driving in LA the other night. So my Accord's engine siezed and fried at least two of the pistons. We'll most likely end up donating the car to charity and taking the tax deduction, so we're looking at getting a new (for us) used car. Believe it or not, we're probably just gonna get another Accord. Anyway, I'm pressed for time at the hangar, because I keep having to swap the truck with Jen. Hopefully we'll have a new car in a couple of days, and I can spend some longer Q.T. at the hangar. I'd like to get these fairings done by the end of the week for the Bakersfield RV fly-in. (Yes, the right seat is already taken.)
