Today I flew over to Corona and met my buddy Ron (Skylane owner/seller, and RV shopper) as he departed. We flew formation up to Crystal Airpark, just on the other side of the hills. Ron was looking at an RV-6 he's thinking of buying, and he wanted my "expert" opinion (yeah, right). I was happy to tag along and take a peek. If anybody out there wants to by a friggin' cherry Skylane, check out Ron's plane.

After getting back to Chino, I decided to do an oil change. The plane has 104 hours on it, so it's due for its 3rd oil change (I change the oil every 25 hours). I had figured I'd change it at the last minute before leaving for the east coast, since I'll probably put 35-40 hours on the plane on the trip. But screw it. It's convenient to do it now, and let's get it over with if anything's gonna pop up. I fixed a tiny oil drip on the lower fitting on the oil cooler. It just needed some teflon PST (I used Loctite 565), since the threads were bare when Pacific Oil Cooler installed it (they used teflon tape on the top fitting, which is dry as a bone). Anyway, I got this shot as I was topping it back off with AeroShell W100 Plus. I had wanted to switch back to AeroShell 15W50, but I don't want to mess with a good thing going right before taking a big trip...so I stuck with what's been working fine. When I get back, I'm changing back to 15W50, though. I believe it's a better oil.

While the cowling was off, I sanded and primed the lower cowl. I didn't do any pinhole filling, just shot some gray primer on there for aesthetics.

This is pretty much how it's gonna look for the long haul. At least there's no more green!
